Video FAQ: What is a Veneer?

May 28, 2021

A veneer is a preparation in which the front or lip-side of a tooth is reduced and replaced with essentially a half dental crown. Veneers are a cosmetic dentistry treatment performed for aesthetic purposes and can completely reshape and reform a person’s smile. Veneers can hide severe tooth staining (due to antibiotic use as a child, or otherwise), but are most often used if a patient wants to have very uniform teeth. Sometimes known as “instant orthodontics,” veneers also are able to remove gaps entirely from a person’s smile — as well as any chips, cracks, stains, or other cosmetic imperfections.

BOTOX® can help alleviate dysfunction and pain associated with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome and migraine issues. Our dentists can use BOTOX® to reduce the force being placed on facial muscles, providing tremendous relief while also enhancing facial aesthetics. Imperfections such as a gummy smile can be eliminated entirely using BOTOX® to relax the muscles around the lips and cover up excessive, exposed gum tissue.

Why would a dentist administer BOTOX®? There is really no other health practitioner better qualified to help! Our dentists provide injections to patients every day, and also are aesthetic enhancement experts. We have been providing Capital District smiles with balance, harmony, and function since 1982, after all!

Video FAQ: How Do You Determine if I Have Sleep Apnea?

March 27, 2021

Filed under: Video FAQs — Tags: , — Dr. Erin Page @ 3:33 am

When looking at signs and symptoms that contribute to sleep apnea, our dentists can determine during an examination if a patient has very little airway space. We also have a thorough discussion about sleep patterns, where typical warnings can include if a patient wakes up tired no matter how many hours are slept.

Oftentimes, a sleep study is also recommended. This is performed at a certified clinic where your sleep is monitored overnight and specialized equipment is used to determined how many times you wake up overnight and if there were any episodes in which breathing ceased.

Sleep apnea therapy is a refined skill and specialty we offer not only to improve our patient’s health but in many cases, save their lives.

Video FAQ: How Do You Treat Sleep Apnea?

February 26, 2021

Filed under: Video FAQs — Dr. Erin Page @ 9:04 pm

The general treatment for sleep apnea is a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine. In short, this is a medical device where patients wear a mask at night that pushes air down the throat. The continuous flow of air keeps a patient’s airway kept open, eliminating the negative effects of sleep apnea.

Many people cannot stand wearing a CPAP, and subsequently do not treat their sleep apnea with this device due to its bulkiness, loud operation, and general discomfort.

Sleep apnea appliances are designed to reposition the jaw to open up the airway, allowing a patient to breathe easier at night and virtually eliminate sleep apnea and snoring. They are much smaller, emit no loud noises, can virtually eliminate sleep apnea — and are very cost-effective.
